About this business
Opening times, reviews & more
The church seems a long way from the current village, however, until is destruction in the civil wars, Strensham castle was only 500 yards away from the church with many buildings in between until the end of the 14th century.
The tower and simple exterior do not prepare a visitor for the dazzling interior, which includes a Norman tub font, sixteenth-century pews, a spectacular screen with painted panels, medieval floor tiles, four centuries of family monuments.
The west gallery has incorporated the remains of a 15th century rood screen. Painted rood screens are hard to find and this is unique in Worcestershire. At the centre of the screen is Christ flanked by apostles and other saints.
In the chancel, are eleven fine monuments dating back to 1390. They include brass knights and life-size reclining figures which compare favourably with churches such as St Mary Magdalene at Croome and All Saints at Spetchley.
The bell tower houses eight bells that are rung regularly by the resident team, and visiting ringers travel across the country to hear them.
The church is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust and holds a couple of services each year.
Opening hours: Daily 10am-4pm, the key can be collected from the old rectory.
