On The Home Front 1940s Weekend 12 & 13 October 2024

Experience Life in the second World War in the UK as Avoncroft Museum turns back the Clock.

With displays showing life in the midlands during the Second World War there will be much to see – ranging from the Motorcycles and other Vehicle’s from the 1930s and 1940s and civilians of the time, reenactors will be bringing our site and buildings including the Prefab to life.

This weekend should be fun for everyone wanting to experience the war years

Avoncroft Museum will come to life over the weekend when many of the counties established re-enactment groups will setting up displays and providing interacting opportunities both in the buildings and around the comprehensive 19 acre site, including Worcestershire at War, The Redditch Home Guard, US Infantry Division, Forever Forties Group, Living History UK, and The Victory Belles.

Many individuals who will be bringing Vehicles from the 1930s and 40s including cars, motorbikes, jeeps and vans, which will recreate the atmosphere and events of World War Two in the United Kingdom.

It will tell the stories associated with the West Midlands during the 1939-45 period and will entertain visitors through immersive activities relating to the time.

During the two days, all over the extensive grounds, there will be displays of historic vehicles, displays by the Observer Corps, by Dispatch Riders, by the ATS and of U.S. Army Training as it prepared for D Day in 1944 in Herefordshire.

Many of the buildings will be bought to life with displays and occupants, plus the chance for some Vintage Shopping in the Vintage Village and a Vintage Hair Stylist to get your Victory Rolls in place, all this plus vintage tunes and live entertainment by Vintage Class, Kitten Von Mew, Jo Thomas (George Formby) throughout the two days and 1940s Radio DJ Guy Roles will spin the “Discs of the Day “.

We shall again be offering free dance classes throughout the day in the main Guesten Hall for you to watch or take part in when the talented All About Swing take to the dance floor and show you how to dance 1940s style.

Food and Drink will be available to purchase in Guesten Hall, and The Food Village area with Bars on The Run, Fish and Chips and other food by GW Catering and the 1940s Field Kitchen, plus the Museums Tearoom.

Additionally, to the two weekend days, the museum is also opening on the Saturday evening 12th October by extending the event into the night with a 1940s War Time Dance with live entertainment in The magnificent New Guesten Hall, there will be live wartime entertainment by wonderful Trio Vintage Class and our headlining act The Lancashire Belle. co-ordinated by 1940s Radio DJ Guy Rolls.

A free return Heritage Bus service provided by Transport Museum Wythall the Bus will be running to and from Bromsgrove Train Station to Avoncroft Museum.

Plus The miniature railway will be running on both days October for just £1 a ride.
