About this event
Dates, address & more
Gluggle jugs are fish shaped novelty jugs first produced in Staffordshire in the early 1800s. Due to their unique shape, they produce a glugging sound when in use, and always bring a smile to your face. There has been a recent resurgence of interest when they were used as a brilliant hand-building challenge on Channel 4’s Great Pottery Throw Down. Finalist potter Dave Short, will be sharing his experience & expertise to deliver this unique class at Honeybourne Pottery.
On arrival at the studio, you’ll be warmly welcomed as you join the rest of your small group. Dave will begin the workshop with a demonstration of how to make a gluggle jug, using slab and coil techniques. He will show you how to form the special clay shapes and structures required to make your piece. Then it’s your turn to get hands-on and have fun making and shaping your very own version. Dave will be on hand throughout offering practical tips and guidance. When you have made the basic gluggle jug shape, it is over to you to decide how you wish to personalise your jug by adding texture, detail and even a splash of colour!
After the session, your finished piece will be left for a week to thoroughly dry out. It will be bisque fired and then dipped in a transparent glaze and fired again. This glaze will give the ware a glossy finish, making the jug watertight and ready to gluggle! You will be notified via email 2-3 weeks after the class regarding collection or p&p can be arranged for a small additional cost.
