The Secret Cotswolds Hidden within The Lord of the Rings
These Hills, along with the Welsh Borders, habitually inspire images of romantic symbolism
About this event
Dates, address & more
Sir Edward Elgar looks down over the Cotswolds from Great Malvern in the Malvern Hills. It is not widely known that the composer’s Enigma Variations conceals a secret theme! These Hills, along with the Welsh Borders, habitually inspire images of romantic symbolism, with the stories of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit among those.
By changing the viewing state of the map of The Shire, Ponty has identified the Cotswolds and many other parts of the four shires (Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire) disguised in these well known stories.
The author and our speaker, Steve Ponty has spent several years on a quest for the location of these places, discovering their invented names and the method of their contrivance.
In the words of Aragorn on the loss of Gandalf in Moria . . .
‘Come! I will lead you now!’. . .
‘. . . Follow me!’
