About this event

Dates, address & more

'Yet, in all this quiet, there was an acute, an acrid consciousness of a restrained hostility, very near to us'

2025 marks 100 years since M.R. James wrote 'A Warning to the Curious'. Mark this anniversary and watch a candlelit performance in the Great Hall at Hanbury against the backdrop of James Thornhill's wall paintings.

'A Warning to the Curious' follows the story of Paxton, a young archaeologist who inadvertently comes upon one of the three holy crowns of East Anglia. What he uncovers leads to something far more sinister...

The performance will begin at 7pm and will be followed by a hot drink of your choice, and a slice a cake or bake* in the Courtyard Kitchen restaurant.

In this one man show, Toby Burchell of Behind the Door Productions performs this chilling tale by the finest writer of the ghost story genre, M.R. James. Originally narrated by James himself as an entertainment for friends, these are the perfect traditional ghost stories.

Event Price : £20 Includes hot drink and cake or bake

Booking is Essential. Seating is allocated on arrival and will be first come, first served.
